Trading indicators are best used along with money management and good risk control, using trading indicators alone will not enable you to be a successful trader, even if you learn everything about currency trading the market is just too random and unless risk is controlled, over time your account will slowly get wiped out, regardless how good a “trader” you think you are.

This question was about currency trading and there have been some pretty good answers that should help in your trading, and especially in relation to currency trading, the answer has been posted in the categories listed below:

Ford Motor (NYSE: F) opened at .04. So far today, the stock has hit a low of .01 and a high of .26. F is now trading at .22, down {content}.33 (-2.86%). Over the last 52 weeks the stock has ranged from a low of .06 to a high of .57. Shares of F are trading lower this morning as investors continued to push the market lower on fears that the recovery of the global economy could get tripped up by debt troubles in Europe. Technical indicators for the stock are neutral and S&P gives F a neutral 3 STARS (out of 5) hold ranking. If you are looking for a hedged play on F the stock seems like it could be a candidate for a September out-of-the-money bear-call credit spread above the 15 range.
I’m new to stocks and am just starting to learn the ins and outs…because I’m a beginner I just want to start off day trading maybe 100 bucks worth of a stock to get the hang of it…how much could I make by just selling high and buying low all throughout the day?

Trading indicators are best used along with money management and good risk control, using trading indicators alone will not enable you to be a successful trader, even if you learn everything about day trading the market is just too random and unless risk is controlled, over time your account will slowly get wiped out, regardless how good a “trader” you think you are.

This question was about day trading and there have been some pretty good answers that should help in your trading, and especially in relation to day trading, the answer has been posted in the categories listed below:

CAVEAT: I have a limited knowledge of statistics and and am not particularly adept with respect to formulas. Hence, kindly explain using prose if you would.

ISSUE: Using stock trading software by prophet.net, a 64-day Linear Regression Trendline ("LRT") is currently the best fit for a particular stock. The 64-day LRT has an R-squared of .933. Now, the trading software has an indicator called "Standard Error Bands" which allows you, for example, to enter (64,3), (64,2), (64,1) etc. In this example, of course, the indicator plots "standard error band" values ("SE") (3SE, 2SE, 1SE etc.) both above and below the 64-day LRT.

With all this in mind, I have researched how to calculate "standard error" but my results don’t seem to match the trading software. The trading software determines the 64-day LRT by using the CLOSING prices for the last 64-days. Can someone give me a step-by-step on how to calculate the 1SE of the 64-day LRT. ASSUME THAT I ALREADY HAVE THE LRT VALUE–I do.
It’s my understanding that the "Standard Error" is the "Standard Deviation" divided by the square root of the number of samples. I tried taking the Standard Deviation of the Closing Prices over the last 64 days and, alternatively, the Standard Deviation of the 64-day Linear Regression Trendline itself–both of which come out to 3.15 and 3.18 respectively, and then divided both of those numbers by 8, which gives me a value of .39 or so for 1 Standard Error. The software, however, has a value that is much greater–closer to .80.

Trading indicators are best used along with money management and good risk control, using trading indicators alone will not enable you to be a successful trader, even if you learn everything about day trading indicators the market is just too random and unless risk is controlled, over time your account will slowly get wiped out, regardless how good a “trader” you think you are.

I started last january. i blew up within weeks because i was uing 400:1 leverage. i also wasent cutting my losses. Anyway through some experience i think i have it a ltitle figured out. What i have to do is wait patiently for a trend to form and act on it. I have about 500 in my account right now trading 50:1.. i cut my loses at 20 pips and let my profits run. until there is a reversal. ii incorperate the fibonacci retracement signals amounst a few ocilattors/indicators. I also keep an eye out on the news that would affect a currency pair. I have also read a few forex traders turning a couple grand into 10s of thousands their first year. I honestly believe this can be me.. can any experienced forex trader advise me?
uhh its actually a minus sum gamethe winner does not make all the money with slippage and commissions look up alexander elder.

Happy Christmas and New year to all.

I’m learning about forex and the book that I am reading (Forex for Dummies) mentions rising 10-year government bond yields as a possible indicator of a currency that may be on the way up in relative value. The logic is that the increase in bond yield indicates a rising economy and therefore a greater possibility of an interest rate increase at some point in the future in order to keep a tab on inflation. Therefore more buying interest in the currency now and a rising relative currency value.

The link that I cannot make is the link between the rising economy and the rising bond yield. Is it because people are dumping bonds and buying stocks instead, thus pushing the bond price down and the relative value of the yield up. Or what?

Thanks.

Well im 20 years old starting community college in January. I must say i will do everything in my power to get the highest GPA possible 4.0 hopefully. At CC im going to try and get into the Phi Tetta Kappa. Then i plan on transfering to university of Pittsburgh. My reasons are simple to save money. Although i did drop out of highschool my senior year. I am going to double major in computer science/economics or finance/economics. Im not sure but one thing is everybody ive talked to in my chosen profession, trading specifically proprietary trading, would agree that a computer science degree and being able to program is a +++ on your resume. Right now im relearning Russian, since im Russian just suffered language attrition, and in college i will be learning French. At PITT i plan on joining the trading club, parkour club, finance club, and investmant banking club. I also plan on obtaining an international business certificate, which requires international study abroad in chosen language or internship (France or Russia)… Im also working part time right now and plan on doing so throughout my education unless it gets in the way of a great GPA. My goal is to get recommendations from professors and a high GMAT score and work experience when i get out then to an ivy league MBA or MSF program. To pay for school the first 2 years shouldnt be a problem since its community college 8K total a year. then i will take out loans for the university. i know trading is what i do best and its my passion so success is a byproduct of all the hard work i put into it and i expect nothing less in the back of my head, but at the same time im not afraid of failure Ari Kiev preaches in his books simply psychology for traders and i must say i learned alot. But when i finish school i plan on moving to Chicago and gettng a prop trading position and doing very well one good trade at a time.. then who knows possibly hedge funds or a top prop shop where being a millionaire isnt anything special. Does my plan sound good? i think it feels right deep down and its what i want to do, so regardless its my plan but i just wanted some critisism and suggestions? thank you

btw my part time job is 50% for stock market trades and 50% for school.. I need to run my account because prop firms LOVE people who have traded before and they absolutey LOVE people who have passion, but alot ofpeople say they do when in reality they really dont and a simple questions like whats your favorite book or what trading blogs do you read? What indicators do you use? Whats better MACD or simple MA or EMA? What were your best trades? how did you feel? when ou lose money how do you react? from all the books ive read since middle school on this subject the books would agree im like the definition of great trader.

In a bull market when selecting a stock, does setting a buy stop price a little above resistance, selecting a stock that’s currently above 30-day moving average and the MA is trending up, and relative strength indicator is also trending up mean that there is a good if not strong possibility that the stock will break out to a new high? Conversely, does a stock that’s broken through support and trending below 30-day moving average usually mean that the stock is more likely than not to fall to new lows? Thanks!
